Blessed are the peacemakers,
The Lord Jesus Christ did say.*
But a whole lot of modern folks
Just don't agree with that today.
It seems that trouble-makers
Are everywhere to be found.
Critics, complainers and agitators
Spread their poison around.
Brotherhood watchdogs stir up
Suspicion, rumors and debate,
While ungodly leaders teach
people not to love but to hate.
Even in our Christian families
The peacemakers are so few.
Most find it easier to hold grudges
Than their relationship to renew.
Lord, help us all to turn loose
Of our bitterness, failures and fears.
And may we become your peacemakers
Each day the rest of our years.
