We believe most, if not all, of the following songs are no longer subject to copyright laws. However, in keeping with the letter of the U.S. Copyright laws, we advise you that if there is any question in your mind about a song's status then it should not be used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research. If you reproduce a copyrighted song for purposes in excess of "fair use," then you may be liable for copyright infringement.

All of these songs are posted here with the sole aim of keeping the traditional music of the Old West alive and available. In some cases, I have tweeked a few of the original words that have no meaning to today's audiences and either replaced them or footnoted them. And, yes, there are often different versions floating around of the same song.
Please note that the guitar chords that usually accompany the songs are certainly open to "interpretation" -- that is, to rearrangement for whatever best suits your voice and style.
