COWBOY DIRECTORY NEWS
An Occasional Newsletter ISSUE # 5 April 8, 2002
Howdy Everyone,
I continue to make both additions and revision to the content of the web site. It is, in fact, more than I can handle (My wife would shout "Amen" to that). It is very time consuming to research and write the material and then to post it to the web site. It would not have grown this large, of course, if I didn’t enjoy writing about these my heroes and friends. However, just between you and me and the gatepost, I would consider donating the COWBOY DIRECTORY to a non-profit organization. Ideally, they would be able to assign staff members or interns or volunteers to keep it growing. That would be my preference, if such an organization steps forward. A second option would be to sell the COWBOY DIRECTORY (format/contents) to someone else, in hopes they would give it greater exposure. As I said, I’m just kinda thinkin’ out loud. But is anyone . . . or any non-profit organization interested?
RECENT ADDITIONS/REVISIONS: Lew Gene Brown, Hal Cannon, Woody Chambliss, Lonnie Chapman, Graham Greene, Dabs Greer, Eileene Heckhart, Clint Howard, Rance Howard, Ron Howard, Tom Hubbard, Guy Logsdon, Virginia Madsen, Larry McWhorter, Ella Raines, Leon Rausch, Lucia St. Clair Robson, Kenny Rogers, Mickey Rooney, Jorge Russek, John Saxon, Glenn Shirley, Hal Smith, and G.D. Spradlin.
FEATURED "GENERAL" WEB SITE LINK:
The Cowboy History and Performance Society (C.H.A.P.S.) has put together a web site worthy of your attention. It features the activities of this group of folks who are bent on keeping Texas cowboy ways alive. You can find their site at: www.cowboysociety.org
FEATURED "MUSIC" WEB SITE LINK:
Try COWPIE BUNKHOUSE when you’re looking for the lyrics and/or guitar chords to cowboy songs. Oh, true, it is basically a "country music site" (i.e., including such plain folk as Shania Twain). But, if you search you’ll find many, many Western songs in the mix. You’ll find it at: www.roughstock.com/cowpie/
FEATURED "WRITER" WEB SITE LINK:
A tip o’ the hat, this time, goes to Glen Seeber for all of the work he has done on his web site called, Along the Chisholm Trail. It features an amazing amount of information, as well as some fine graphics, related to this important cattle trail. You’ll find it at: www.texhoma.net/~glencbr/
FEATURED JOKE:
A young woman was in love with two hairy-legged cowboys and she just could not decide which of them to marry. Finally, she went to a marriage counselor. "Oh, I just don’t know which of them cowpokes I should hitch up with. Lester is the cook out at the ranch and he makes the most delicious pancakes I ever et. But, Billy Bob writes all that wonderful cowboy poetry. Whatever shall I do?" The learned counselor stroked his beard and astutely said, "I see what the problem is, my dear. You can't decide whether to marry for batter or verse."SOMETHING TO CONSIDER:
Peggy Coleman sent this to me: "A native American boy was talking with his grandfather. ‘What do you think about the world situation?’ he asked. The grandfather replied, ‘I feel like two wolves are fighting in my heart. One is full of anger and hatred. The other is full of love, forgiveness and peace.’ "‘Which one will win?’ asked the boy.
"To which the grandfather replied, ‘The one I feed.’"Well, that’s it for now, neighbors. Hope you’ll take a gander at the new/revised material in THE COWBOY DIRECTORY. The latch string is always out here at the ol’ Circle P. So y’all come when ya can, ya hear?
