KNOTS TIED: Congratulations to JIMMY "TUMBLEWEED" NORTHCUTT and SARAH GILL on their recent decision to work in double-harness . I got 'em to stand still long enough at the National Cowboy Symposium to get a pretty dern good photo, 'cept you can still see Tumbleweed in it . . . . And congratulations also goes out to newlyweds DENNIS GAINES and KAREN CHESKY.

TODAY’S JOKE:Peggy Coleman of Pawnee, OK., sent this joke to me recently: At one time in my life, I thought I had a handle on the meaning of the word "service." The act of doing things for other people. Then I heard the terms Internal Revenue Service, Postal Service, Civil Service, Service Stations... And I became confused about the word "service." This is not what I thought "service" meant.

Then one day, I overheard two farmers talking and one of them mentioned that he was having a bull service a few of his cows. SHAZAM!! It all came into perspective. Now I understand what all those "service" agencies are doing to us.

PERSONAL: Peggy and I enjoyed our annual pilgrimage to Lubbock, Texas for the National Cowboy Symposium. Alvin and Barbara Davis</B> and all their helpers pulled off another great show. CLICK HERE to see the photos that I took during the Symposium.

We leave Oct. 10 for four nights in Fort Lauderdale, out where the doggies roam and seldom is heard a discouraging word. Well, anyway, that’s where we’re going for a little R&R . . . . And then I will be performing on Saturday, Nov. 9th, at the Western Oklahoma Cowboy Poetry Gathering. That will be in beautiful Red Rock Canyon Park, near Hinton, OK., from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Come and enjoy the music and poetry, along with a chuckwagon supper, for just $8.50. There’s also be a Cowboy Church service on Sunday morning. Lazy B Productions, headed by Robert and Angela Beene, are heading up this roundup. Phone 405-797-3608 for details.

Our son – Stan Paregien, Jr. – is a full-time Public Affairs Officer with the Air Force Reserves at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. He was recently promoted to Captain . We're proud of him and of all of our military folks. . . . Stan Jr. and his 9-year old son, Daniel, play the guitar and fiddle (respectively) at VA hospitals, nursing homes and Bluegrass shows in Illinois and Missouri. . . . . . And it was a great thrill, as grandparents, to watch Daniel perform in July with the Byron Berline Band at Guthrie, Oklahoma. He nailed all four of his songs and brought the audience to their feet, cheering and clapping and whistling. Way to go, Daniel!

Well, as you can see we’re still chugging along with the COWBOY DIRECTORY. Got this encouraging note from Jim Gough (actor, singer, musician, cowboy poet, radio-TV personality): "Stan, old pardner.....just ran into your web page while searching my name on Google! Very impressive. One of my old Navy shipmates found me after 30 some years just because of your site!"

Be sure to swing by and take a gander at JIM GOUGH’S own web site: CLICK HERE. It is very nicely done.

SOMETHING TO CONSIDER: : If God made entrance into heaven depend on merit, rather than grace, your cowdog would get in and you wouldn't. --Stan Paregien

Well, that's it for now, neighbors. As Red Steagall says, "We got this one saucered and blowed."

Please don’t forget to make the email address change noted above. The web site for the COWBOY DIRECTORY remains: www.texmexx.net.
