Howdy Everyone,

Peggy and I took a little tour of the latest additions to the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum on Sat., May 31. Got to see the special temporary gallery (now gone) devoted to still photographs made during the filming of the great Western classic John Wayne movie, “Stagecoach.” Among other things, we learned that the actual filming only took 48 days - and only a week was on location in Monument Valley, Utah; the rest was shot on the studio lot or at such nearby locations as Iverson Ranch. And we learned that the leading lady made $15,000 for her part in the film, and Andy Devine made about $7,000. But John Wayne, the new guy, was only paid $3,700 for starring in it.

If you haven’t seen “Open Range” yet, go see it in a theater. I enjoyed the performances of Robert Duval and Kevin Costner. And the photography, featuring magnificent Western mountains and range land, will knock your hat in the creek. Somebody find out and tell me where it was filmed . . . and please tell me it was not Spain or Romania or some such . . . . . . . .

THANKS and a tip o’ the Stetson to . . .
