Howdy Everyone,

THANKS and a tip o’ the Stetson to . . .

Librarian Lynn Murphy of Halifax, Nova Scotia for telling us about a talented Canadian novelist, Guy Vanderhaeghe.

DEATHS
Jack Elam, actor, died on Oct. 21, 2003 in Ashland, Oregon. The BBC radio network decided to do a segment about him and, in doing research, ran across his bio in CowboyDirectory.Com. So they phoned me and I did about a six-minute live interview, broadcast around the world, on the career of Jack Elam.

Rosalie Allen, dejay and singer, died in California on Sept. 24, 2003

Dorothy Fay (Southworth) Ritter died in California on Nov. 5, 2003. She acted in a few Western movies opposite such men as "Wild Bill" Elliott and Buck Jones. But she was more widely known as the widow of singer/actor Tex Ritter and the mother of the late actor John Ritter.

Speedy West (Wesley Webb West) died at a Broken Arrow, Oklahoma nursing home on Saturday, November 15, 2003 at the age of 79.``Speedy'' West's innovative steel-guitar licks made him one of the best-known musicians to play the instrument. West was Capitol Records' first-call steel guitar player from 1950 through 1956, and he was heard on hundreds of recording sessions.

Rick Felix

(Richard Randell Felix), champion yodeling and entertainer, died in a traffic accident near Cordes Junction, Arizona on Nov. 8, 2003. He had performed earlier in the evening at Page, Arizona and was returning home. The funeral was in Phoenix. His wife, Pam, asks that any donations be made to the Rick Felix Memorial Scholarship (made out in that name) and mailed to her at 5355 E. Hillary, Scottsdale, AZ 85254

NEW FEATURE: "LETTERS"
We receive lots of interesting letters (now mainly emails) each year from all over the world. So we thought we would, with each author's permission, start sharing some of them with you. Check the main menu for "Letters".

MISCELLANEOUS
We enjoyed attending and performing at the 2nd annual Western Oklahoma Cowboy Poetry Gathering at Red Rock Canyon State Park near Hinton, Oklahoma on November 1st and 2nd. Robert & Angela Beene did another wonderful job of organizing it and pulling it off. Look for it about the same time next year. We were especially impressed by the performances of Kata Hay, a teenager from Skiatook, Oklahoma. That tiny gal has a powerful Tanya Tucker kind of voice and can play the guitar like she was born with one in her hand. We expect her to be a major star not too far down the road, so go hear her if you get a chance.

NEW BIOGRAPHICAL MATERIAL
We have either added or changed material in the listings for ---- Rosalie Allen, Robert Beene, Lanny Joe Burnett, Hank Elling, Rick Felix, Bennie Garcia, William S. Hart, The Prairie Twins, Sons of the San Juaquin, Wesley Tuttle, Guy Vanderhaeghe, R.J. Vandygriff, and John Wooley.

Big doin’s on Friday, June 11, 2004. That’s when the fabulous Sons of the Pioneers will be celebrating their 70th year as a group. The event will take place in Carnegie Hall in New York City. Joining the Sons will be The Prairie Rose Wranglers, and two of Roy Rogers’ children - Roy (“Dusty”) Rogers, Jr. and Mindy (Rogers) Petersen. See PrairieRoseChuckwagon.com for details.

Peggy and I ask that you pause for a moment, right now, to pray for our troops who are in dangerous places around the world. And if you don't know anyone in particular to pray for, please pray for the safety of our son-- Stan Paregien, Jr. --or Gene, as we still call him. He is a Captain in full-time service in the Air Force Reserves, headquarted at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. But he was sent to Iraq on November 18th.

Go the to bottom of the main menu and click on "Photos of Iraq" to see some photos he has taken.

Well, we want to leave you on a lighter note. And it doesn't get much lighter than this graphic, sent to us by our ol' saddle pard Ken O'Rourke. First, be sure your "sound/audio" is on. The click on the link, below, and wait just a minute for it to load. Then sit back, close your eyes, and remember how you laughed when you were a kid . . . or the last time you got to make a kid laugh by swinging him around. And then, . . . find a kid to hug.

CLICK HERE to have a good laugh.

Adios for now,

Cowboy Stan Paregien
